Lunar Eclipse by Andrew Hatfield
Total Eclipse of the Moon, 3rd March 2007.
Canon 30D SLR. Sigma Catadioptic 500mm lens. f10, ISO 200.
The umbral shadow cast by the earth crossed the lunar disc (bottom left) and when totally engulfed the Moon (centre) the visible atmosphere became a dark coppery-red colour due to the sunlight being filtered and refracted through the earth's atmosphere. The Moon then becoming brighter as the umbral shadow moved to the right (top right) revealing an ice halo around the Moon for a short time.
Time span for this compilation of images was approx. 2 hours.
